About Sportsman’s Studios
Sportsman's Studios is located just south of the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachian Mountains. Having grown up in these mountains it has created numerous opportunities for adventure in the outdoors. Memories of countless cold snowy opening day mornings with my dad trout fishing and climbing into the icy streams looking for that first tug through your fingertips and the rod to bend. Then moving directly into the spring with sounds of gobblers on the roost anxiously waiting for the fly down to get to work calling one close.
Followed by many hours mid-summer practicing with the bow in the backyard and envisioning that next encounter of hopefully the buck of a lifetime. The excitement of leaves changing and that smell in the air of fall coming leads to the chasing of the whitetails and of course the all-important days of November when the big boys start to roam. Then to throw in the excitement of chasing feathers – yes, the ducks and the pheasants – how can it get any better.
This is solely what lead me to taxidermy – the desire to see these adventures not forgotten.
Desire and focus with respect to all species to create a craftmanship mount that reflects natural behavior but also provides detail that’s anatomically correct. As an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, the goal is to create lasting memories of that adventure that takes you immediately back to that moment in time -- to that slippery rock you were standing on when that line straightened or that briar bush that was in your line of sight waiting for that gobbler to clear, the noise you heard in the thicket and the moment when all you could see was horns stepping into view, the last clump of grass you kicked that flushed out the pheasant, or even that morning of the cold misty fog when you heard the wings of the duck way before actual cupping and dropping into view. These are the recollections brought back to life by Sportsman’s Studios.
